<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water heater that is formed by combining a water heating device and an absorption heat pump, can utilize heat recovered from the atmosphere further efficiently, and has a further simple constitution. <P>SOLUTION: The water heater is formed by combining the combustion type water heating device 1 and the absorption heat pump 2 for auxiliary heating. The absorption heat pump 2 comprises absorption apparatuses 21 and 22 for repeating an absorption operation and a desorption operation of an adsorbate by an absorbing material, a condenser 24 for condensing adsorbate vapor desorbed by the absorption apparatuses to a liquid adsorbate, an evaporator 23 for evaporating the adsorbate liquefied by the condenser and absorbing the adsorbate vapor with the absorption apparatuses 21 and 22, and a heat collecting means for taking in the heat of the atmosphere and supplying it to the evaporator 23.
