PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a collapsible zoom lens barrel whose storage length can be shortened furthermore and to obtain a collapsing method. SOLUTION: In the collapsible zoom lens barrel including a plurality of optical elements composing a zoom lens system, all of the plurality of optical elements are positioned on a common photographing optical axis in a photographing state, and a part of the plurality of optical elements is moved to a removed position outside of the common optical axis of the remaining optical elements, and the removable optical element and at least one element of the remaining elements of the plurality of optical elements are moved rearward, respective, in a collapsed state, and photographing is made impossible.
