PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a bit number of a display RAM in a color display apparatus, and to achieve lower price and lower electric power consumption of a color display apparatus and its drive circuit. SOLUTION: One aspect of the invention is a drive circuit 5 of a color display apparatus in which one pixel is composed of at least three dots of three colors and which has a partial display function, defining a portion of a display part of a display panel 1 for color display as a partial display region 2 and defining other portions as non-display regions 3, 4, and has an array of m rows by n columns pixels. The driving circuit 5 includes a display RAM 13, which stores p×q×1-bit digital image signals (p<m and q≤n), a color setting register to set a display color of characters in the partial display region, and a color selection circuit 15 for selecting a signal of the color setting register 12, based on a partial display region signal PA1 which distinguishes the partial display region or the non-display region and based on a digital image signal Dm of the display RAM 13.
