PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable valve gear of an engine effectively reducing load to a camshaft in an engine high speed region without increasing the weight of a center arm. SOLUTION: The variable valve gear of the engine for variably controlling opening and closing timing and a lift amount of an intake or exhaust valve 1 comprises a driving cam 3 fixed to the cam shaft 8, a rocking cam 5 rockably supported on a rocker shaft 12 arranged parallel to the camshaft, the rocker arm 6 following a cam surface 13 of the rocking cam and driving the intake or exhaust valve 1 to open and close, a center arm 4 having a rocking fulcrum on an outer peripheral portion of the rocker shaft and transmitting drive force of the camshaft between the driving cam and the rocking cam, and a turn drive means for turning the rocker shaft to change a position of the rocking fulcrum on the center arm. When the position of the rocking fulcrum of the center arm is changed, at the same rotation angle of the camshaft, a circumferential position of the driving cam contacting with the center arm is changed and a distance L<SB>2</SB>between a portion where the rocking cam and the center arm contact and the rocker shaft is not changed.
