PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable rapid and simple skipping at the time of video reproduction. SOLUTION: When skip processing is designated by pushing, for example, a skip button of a remote controller after the start of reproduction of video data recorded in a recording medium permitting random access of a hard disk drive unit, etc., the skip time is set according to the number of times that the skip button is pushed or the time when the skip button is kept pushed, and the reproduction of the video data is skipped only for the skip time and during this time, the intermediate video obtained by extracting, for example, the video at the time of the ordinary reproduction every three seconds is displayed. When the skip time exceeds the prescribed reference value (for example, 60 seconds), skipping is instantaneously performed up to, for example, 30 seconds before the ordinary reproduction start position earlier by the skip time from the skip start, and thereafter, the intermediate video is displayed 10 times and is shifted to the ordinary reproduction.
