PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a handwritten character input apparatus which permits correction easily, when an error occurs during extraction of a character in online handwritten character recognition without input frame, and is adaptable to character learning according to a user's habit in writing. SOLUTION: The apparatus is provided with an ink data storage section 13 for storing inputted ink data, an extraction position storage section 15 for storing extraction position information, and an extraction position resetting section 20 which displays the ink data, together with an extraction position on an input/display panel 11, resets the extraction position according to a gesture, when a predetermined gesture is made regarding the displayed ink data, and updates the extraction position information in the extraction position storing section 15.
