PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an optically active cyclicα-amino acid half ester. SOLUTION: The optically active cyclicα-amino acid half ester is obtained by selectively hydrolyzing only one of the ester parts of a cyclicα-amino acid diester represented by formula (1) [two alkoxycarbonyl are at cis positions to a nitrogen containing ring; R<SP>1</SP>is a (saturated) alkyl or aralkyl; R<SP>2</SP>is a (saturated) or unsaturated alkyl or aralkyl which may contain a halogen, N or O; and (n) is an integer of 1-3] in a buffer solution in the presence of carboxylesterase (E.C. 3.1.1.1).
