PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for realizing correction of a false color in real time by carrying out parameter calculation adopting a reduced image in the correction processing of the false color such as a purple fringe. SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus calculates a degree of false color corresponding to pixels and executes saturation reduction processing of each pixel on the basis of the calculated degree of the false color. The image processing apparatus generates the reduced image in calculation processing of a degree of the false color as a correction parameter, and executes white jump detection processing on the basis of the reduced image. Through the configuration above, the reduction in the computation amount and the reduction in the processing time is realized. Since the image processing apparatus adopts a configuration wherein a degree of purple color applied to the calculation of the degree of the false color is acquired on the basis of a present frame (n) and a degree of white jump is acquired on the basis of a preceding frame (n-1), the image processing apparatus prevents a delay in the processing time, realizes the correction of moving picture data entered at a prescribed frame in real time, and also realizes high speed production of image data with high quality by the saturation reduction processing and a blurring processing applied to the false color such as the purple fringe.
