PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine for performing miller cycle not applying load on an intake valve like a case of early close type and making intake air intruding in a combustion chamber not blow back to an intake system. SOLUTION: A piston 2 is separated to a first piston (upper piston 3) in a side close to an intake valve and a second piston (lower piston 4) in a side close to a crank or the first piston 3 and the second piston 4 move in a cylinder 1 as one unit. The first piston 3 and the second piston 4 separates in an intake stroke, the separated first piston 3 and the second piston 4 get close in a compression stroke, the first piston 3 and the second piston 4 move in the cylinder 1 as one unit in an expansion stroke and an exhaust stroke.
