<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a relaying apparatus and an optimum packet length setting method capable of avoiding the occurrence of fragmentation in the case of making communication relayed through a plurality of networks. <P>SOLUTION: A router transmits an echo request with a division inhibit flag including data with a maximum data length of an IEEE 802.3 Ethernet (R) 3 directly connected to a router at its downstream side, transmits again the echo request with a division inhibit flag whose maximum data length is reduced in the case of receiving an error notice, obtains an optimized maximum data length longest in the maximum data lengths in the case of receiving an echo acknowledgement, compares the maximum data length described in a packet of a communication acknowledgement request and communication acknowledgement with the optimized maximum data length in the case of the packet from the terminal or to the terminal, rewrites the maximum data length of the packet into the optimized maximum data length when the maximum data length is longer, and transmits the resulting packet. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
