PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical transmission apparatus that enables the number of components thereof to be reduced and consequently can be produced inexpensively by simple design. SOLUTION: The optical transmission apparatus is provided with: a holder 10 that retains an optical element 2 for at least receiving or emitting light and that has a plug inserting hole 15 for inserting a plug 40 for transmitting an optical signal; a shutter 20 for opening/closing the plug inserting hole 15; and a spring 30 that biases the shutter 20 in the closing direction. The spring is provided with a pair of wound wire parts 31 and an arm part 32 which connects both wire parts and is in contact with the holder, and the spring 30 is held by the shutter 20 and the shutter 20 is constituted to be externally attachable to the holder 10.
