PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device for fixing an unfixed image under heat which applies pressing force for obtaining adequate fixability to a fixing material. SOLUTION: The fixing device of a fixing system directly heats the surface of a fixing member by radiation from a radiation source incorporated in the fixing member. The fixing device has a multi-layer fixing member 4 incorporating the radiation sources 6 and 7, radiation transmitting layers 4a and 4b that incorporate the radiation sources and transmit radiation from at least the radiation sources, and a radiation absorbing layer 4a that absorbs radiation transmitted by the radiation transmitting layer; and an opposite member 3 for forming a nip section N between the fixing member and itself; and while holding in the nip and conveying a fixing material S with an unfixed image T formed and held on it, heats the unfixed image and fixes the unfixed image to the surface of the fixing material. The fixing device has a pressing member 7, for firmly causing the fixing member to press towards the nip section against the opposite member from the side of the radiation transmission layers.
