PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive method for cultivating yam suitable for mass production with an easy structure without forcing heavy labor. SOLUTION: This method for cultivating the yam comprises covering a slope 2 formed on the surface of a basic body 1 with a sheet 3 with flexibility, putting a yam seed material 4 on the sheet 3 and covering soil 5 over the yam seed material 4 and the sheet 3. Alternatively, the method comprises a first process of covering the slope 2 formed on the surface of the basic body 1 with the sheet 3 with flexibility, a second process of putting the yam seed material 4 on the sheet 3 and a third process of covering the soil 5 over the yam seed material 4 and the sheet 3, a fourth process of forming a slope having an angle of inclination almost the same as that of the slope 2 in the first process on the surface of the soil 5 covered in the third process and a fifth process of covering the soil slope formed on the fourth process with the sheet.
