<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve power performance while inhibiting the driving of an electric motor over an upper limit rotational frequency. <P>SOLUTION: In the automobile where the electric motor is connected with a driving shaft through a transmission, gear shifting to a Hi gear is started with a gear shifting pattern flag F of a value 0, when a car velocity V reaches a prescribed car velocity Vhil when an accelerator opening Acc is not fully opened in a state that a Lo gear is selected in the transmission, and the gear shifting to the Hi gear is started with a transmission pattern flag F of value 1, when the car velocity V is reaches a prescribed car velocity Vhi2 or more higher than the prescribed car velocity Vhi1, when the accelerator opening Acc is fully opened. In gear shifting, a brake for the Lo gear is disengaged, and a brake for the Hi gear is frictionally engaged.
