PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thin film magnetic head in which the adverse influence of the external noise entering a slider substrate from outside can be prevented and further, the heat to a magnetoresistive effect layer can be limited as far as possible by increasing the heat radiation effect to the substrate side. SOLUTION: The thin film magnetic head is provided with a lower shielding layer, an upper shielding layer, and a heat sink layer in a backward area (a direction opposite to ABS which is a recording and reproducing side face) of a lower magnetic pole layer, and is so constituted that the heat sink layer is connected to the lower magnetic pole layer and the lower magnetic pole layer and the substrate are connected via the heat sink layer.
