PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a readily alkali-soluble polyester resin having good heat stability, causing little heat deterioration in drying pellet and in melt spinning and, thereby, capable of well operably forming readily alkali-soluble fiber and split type conjugate fiber which have excellent quality. SOLUTION: The readily alkali-soluble polyester resin is a polyester resin comprising 5-20 mass% polyether compound or polyether compound derivative having 1,000-15,000 average molecular weight and polyalkylene terephthalate copolymerized with 0.5-5 mol% aromatic dicarboxylic acid having sulfonate group based on the total acid components, wherein the readily alkali-soluble polyester resin has ≥0.7 intrinsic viscosity and ≥90% intrinsic viscosity retention when heat-treated 10 h at 150°C in dry air atmosphere.
