PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable radio terminal having high broadcast receiving sensitivity when connected to an external device, and the external device. SOLUTION: A loop element 7 is arranged in a lower casing 2. The loop element 7 is connected to a high frequency switch 9 through a matching circuit 8. A rod antenna element 13 is arranged at the surface of a display device 10. The signal from the rod antenna element 13 is inputted to the high frequency switch 9 through a feeder line 14 and a matching circuit 15. An antenna switching control part 17 detects received signal intensity in a broadcast receiving circuit 16 and operates so as to switch the high frequency switch 9 in accordance with the level of the received signal.
