摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas adsorbent having higher absorptivity for adsorbing ethylene and other harmful gasses generated from fruit and vegetables than that of the metal ion-deposited alumina pillared fluorine mica disclosed in unexamined publication number H11-346211. SOLUTION: A gas adsorbent production method is characterized in that swellable fluorinated mica is used as a host and polynuclear hydroxo aluminum is used as a guest and by an intercalation reaction, a composite material is produced in which an ion of polynuclear hydroxo aluminum is housed in the interlayer of swellable fluorinated mica, the produced composite material is then heat-treated to produce the alumina pillared fluorine mica which has an interlayer where activated alumina and an ion-exchangeable proton are coordinated and which has ion-exchangeability, then the produced alumina pillared fluorine mica is treated in a sodium ion-containing liquid and then dried to obtain porous alumina pillared fluorine mica, and a metal ion is deposited on the obtained porous alumina pillared fluorine mica by ion exchange to produce the objective gas adsorbent. The produced gas adsorbent exhibits excellent adsorptivity when adsorbing a harmful gas of low concentration to high concentration. For example, when this gas adsorbent is applied to fruit and vegetables, the ethylene generated from fruit and vegetables can be adsorbed quickly at high efficiency and the freshness of fruit and vegetables can be kept over a long period of time.
