A double-acting ram 1 of the kind used for shifting mining machinery is operated by applying a setting gun selectively to one of a pair of inlets 7, 9 which are connected via shuttle valve 16 to pairs of ducts 6, 12 and 5, 13 which communicate respectively with opposite ends of the ram cylinder. An exhaust duct 20 communicates via the reduced central portion of the valve shuttle with the duct 5 or 6 not being fed by the gun. |
