PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine and its control method for starting the internal combustion engine from a stop condition. SOLUTION: This engine has an intake valve and an exhaust valve operating independently from rotation of the engine. The engine has a fuel injection valve and an ignition plug arranged in each engine cylinder. The intake valve and the exhaust valve are closed in one engine cylinder, fuel is injected into the cylinder, and the ignition plug in the cylinder is ignited.
