<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shaft seal which is simply structured and is capable of reducing appropriately a fluid leakage loss as well as being able to offer invariably certain gap adjusting operation. <P>SOLUTION: In a transient operation where low load is applied, a gap between a thin-plate member and an opposite member is held large and contact abrasion of the thin-plate member is prevented, whereas in a high-load operation, the gap is held small due to a deformation of the thin-plate member. Hence, the gap in a seal portion can be automatically adjusted without fail and besides the fluid leakage loss in the high-load operation can be reduced, thus obtaining the effect of enabling efficient operation. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
