PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an add-drop multiplexer (ADM) realizing optical and wireless networks with one ADM without the need for a MODEM for wireless communication at the outside of the multiplexer in the case of configuring the wireless network. SOLUTION: Modulators 20, 21, and demodulators 28, 29 and the like are provided in the ADM as the MODEMs for wireless communication, and also SDH interface circuits 3, 4, 10, 11 and SDH mapping/demapping circuits 5, 6, 8, 9 for processing SDH signals are provided in the ADM. Signal drop circuits 34, 35 and signal switching circuits 36, 37 carry out path switching so that both a modulation signal and the SDH signal are processed simultaneously. Thus, even in the case of configuring the wireless network, no MODEM for wireless communication is required to the outside of the ADM to thereby reduce the cost for system buildup. Since the ADM processes both the modulation and SDH signals simultaneously, the ADM can build up both the optical and wireless networks at the same time. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
