PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a CO gas sensor output current control method for accurately detecting CO gas by lowering the effect of reduction in a p-n sensor output current value caused by the lapse of time. SOLUTION: According to this CO gas sensor output current control method, a gas under detection is brought into contact with a p-n sensor with a voltage impressed thereon, the p-n sensor being formed by bringing a p-type semiconductor into contact with an n-type semiconductor, to detect carbon monoxide in the gas by measuring an output current value of the p-n sensor. In this control method, the output current of the p-n sensor is increased or decreased by impressing a forward or backward bias voltage on the p-n sensor for a prescribed period of time. Preferably, the polarity of the bias voltage is polarity reverse to the voltage impressed on the p-n sensor in measuring an output current of the sensor. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
