The device (1) has at least one transmitter unit and at least one receiver device. It also has a cover (4) which allows light to pass through, at least in the region of the transmitter and receiver units. The light transmitted from the transmitter is reflected outside the cover and is received by the receiver. A light conductor arrangement is provided inside the housing in front of the cover between the transmitter unit and the receiver unit. Either only the light component reflected at the transmitter unit cover from inside or only the light component passing through the cover from outside can be conveyed for analysis to the receiver unit.
