Disclosed is an multistage automatic transmission comprising an input shaft (AN), an output shaft (AB), three individual planetary gear sets (RS1, RS2, RS3), and five shifting elements (A to E). An input speed of the input shaft (AN) can be transmitted without range selection to the output shaft (AB) by selectively closing a couple of said shifting elements (A to E). A sun gear (SO3) of the third gear set (RS3) can be fixed to a transmission housing (GG) via the first shifting element (A). The input shaft (AN) is connected to a sun gear (SO2) of the second gear set (RS2) and can be connected to a sun gear (SO1) of the first gear set (RS1) via the second shifting element (B) and/or to a web (ST1) of the first gear set (RS1) via the fifth shifting element (E). Alternatively, the sun gear (SO1) of the first gear set (RS1) can be fixed to the transmission housing (GG) via the third shifting element (C), and/or the web (ST1) of the first gear set (RS1) can be fixed to the transmission housing (GG) via the fourth shifting element (D). The output shaft (AB) is connected to an internal gear (HO1) of the first gear set (RS1) and one of the webs (ST2, ST3) of the second or third gear set (RS2, RS3). The third and fourth shifting element (C, D) are disposed radially on top of each other, and so are the fifth (E) and second (B) shifting element.
