The main chassis (110) of a tape deck has a sloped projection (130) onto which a head drum (20) is mounted. This avoids the need for a separate head mounting structure. Additionally, pole base guide rails (141, 142) may also be formed integrally with the main chassis (110). The preferred method of forming the integrated main chassis (110) is pressing.
