The component comprises an assembly of parallel plates(4a-4e) of fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) tailored according to their function in the component. Preferred Features: Each plate includes fibers(6) at an angle to the principal direction of the component. Additional fibers(7) extend around the outer profile of the component. Different laminate constructions are used depending on plate position in the component. Fiber rovings are connected by an embroidery method. Alternatively plates may comprise segments of punched woven or non-woven fabric sections with unidirectional fibers which are preimpregnated with resin. In the case of a thermosetting resin this is cured while a thermoplastic resin is solidified. Fiber distribution in each plate can be different in the transverse and/or longitudinal directions. Fiber rovings cross each other at 20-50 degrees, particularly in areas of high shear stress. Highly stressed areas may also have a higher fiber density. Plates are bonded or welded together. |
