The apparatus has a pressure control mechanism for controlling a pressure applied to a back of an orbiting scroll. A sealing varying mechanism changes a sealing region of a orbiting scroll wrap (42) and fixed scroll wrap (32) based on a change in the pressure applied to the back of the orbiting scroll. The sealing varying mechanism has sealing grooves formed on the tip faces of the fixed and orbiting scroll wraps.
