1,237,264. Cleaning electrical windings; insulating. AYRODEV PROCESSES Ltd. 6 Nov., 1968 [8 Oct., 1968], No. 47626/68. Addition to 1,195,796. Heading D1P. Defective areas in the windings of rotatable electric machinery, e.g. an armature, are located by measuring their electrical insulation resistance and the windings are then treated, preferentially in these areas, with a substantially non-aqueous cleaning composition comprising a cationic surfactant which is an organic acid salt of an amine (which may be quaternary) containing a hydrocarbon moiety of not less than 12 C atoms, a hydroxy aromatic acid or ester thereof and at least one organic hydrocarbon solvent but excluding any halogenated hydrocarbon solvent until the said areas attain a maximum constant value of this resistance, the solvent(s) being allowed to evaporate to leave a protective film on the windings. The composition exemplified comprises the dioleate salt of N- stearyl-n-propylene-1, 3-diamine, methyl salicylate, white spirit and dipentene. Cleaning may be followed by application of an insulating varnish, e.g. based on an oil modified pentaerythritol alkyd.
|
