摘要 1,187,609. Bookbinding machines. GENERAL BINDING CORP. 6 Dec., 1967 [20 March, 1967], No. 55570/67. Heading B6A. A machine for binding a stack 20, Fig. 2a, of perforated sheets into a book form using consecutive binding elements 17, each formed by a plurality of curled fingers 17a which are integral with binding spines 17b attached to one or more pressure sensitive tapes 27, Fig. 5, is provided with a supporting structure 62, Fig. 1, carrying a supply roll 60 of the tape mounted elements, which are fed progressively and intermittently over a guide plate 63 to a spine comb 12, which is reciprocated transversely to the feeding direction of the elements so that the fingers 17a can be engaged by the hooks 13a on uncurling fingers 13 which are mounted on an oscillated yoke 15 and driven by an arm mounted on a yoke 15 oscillated by an electric motor 14 driven link 14b. When the curled fingers 17a are uncurled by the fingers 13 an operator places a stack 20 of the perforated sheets over the distal ends of the curled fingers 17a and depresses a switch 22, Fig. 1, to drive the motor 14 clockwise whereby the yoke 15 causes the uncurling fingers 13 to close the curled fingers 17a, the motor 14 being stopped by a limit switch 49 when the fingers 13 reach the comb 12, which is reciprocated to free the curled fingers 17a from engagement with the hooks 13a. The operator then removes the bound stack of sheets from the comb thereby operating a switch 21, which causes a motor 24 to oscillate a crank 26, which feeds the tapes 27 through a distance corresponding to the pitch between adjacent binding elements 17 to strip the element 17 off the tapes and present it opposite the comb 12. The motor 24 is driven through a one-revolution clutch and associated with a limit switch 30, which energizes the motor 14 to make the latter rotate in an anti-clockwise direction and thereby drive the yoke 15 and the uncurling fingers in the same direction so that the curled fingers 17a are opened into a stack receiving position shown in Fig. 2a. The next cycle of binding, when a stack 20 is placed over the opened curled fingers 17a, may be started on depression of the switch 21.
