The web (5) press and drying station, in a papermaking machine (1), has a single nip at the press stage (3) and at least the leading and/or second drying unit (19,20) is an airflow drier at the drying group (4) working on the through air drying (TAD) principle. The drying air temperature is >= 150[deg]C and preferably >=180[deg]C and especially >=220[deg]C. The web passes through the press section between two blankets (11,12) through a nip (13) formed by a shoe press (14).
