The invention provides an apparatus 101 for forming a weak portion (19 figure 1) in a plastics sheet (7 figure 1), said apparatus 101 comprising a thinning member 103 for engaging a surface of the plastics sheet and means to move said plastics sheet relative to a surface of the thinning member 103 such that a part of the surface of the sheet can be engaged and removed by the thinning member 103 to reduce the sheet thickness and provide a weak portion in the sheet which is thinner than parts of the sheet adjacent thereto. Also provided are an article of packaging (1 figure 1) comprising a plastics sheet having a weak portion and a method of manufacturing a product comprising a plastics sheet having a weak portion. The article may be a sealable bag for a medical sample container or anti-static packaging for electronics components. |
