The gasket comprises one or more metallic layers (1, 2) facing the cylinder head and/or engine block. A complete channel (or seam) is formed in the gasket, to face the cylinder head and/or engine block. This encloses deformable sealant. The channel includes at least one bridging interruption directed toward the edge of the gasket. This permits defined displacement of surplus sealant. An independent claim is included for the sealing method.
