The method involves reading an information carrier and producing an electronic image of the carrier. A mark (2) on the image of the carrier is detected and a position of the mark on the image is determined. The position of the mark on the image is compared with a position of the mark on the carrier and data over the position of the mark is used on the carrier and the data is coded in the mark. An independent claim is also included for an information carrier for machine readable data.
