A plant for filling hollow building blocks with thermal insulation has the dry components held in gravity fed silos (20, 21) which drop measured amounts onto a screw feed (22) leading to a dry mixing chamber (23). The dry mix is passed to a wet mixing station (27) where water is added as well as binder and other material. The wet compound is applied to hollow blocks on a conveyor feed with the compound pressed into the blocks to prevent shrinkage when setting.
