A grease comprises a poly C5-C18 olefin vehicle having a VI of at least 110, a thickening agent, calcium acetate and an amount, sufficient to maintain the calcium acetate in a dispersed state of an N-acyl-substituted sacosine compound of formula CH3 <FORM:1083075/C4-C5/1> where R is a C8-C24 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical. Thickeners specified are alkali, alkaline earth, aluminium, lead and zinc soaps, organophilic clays e.g. alkyl ammonium bentonite or hectorite, silica, pigments, polyarylureas and terephthalamates. The grease may also contain amine and phenolic antioxidants, free fat, free fatty acids, alkyl and/or aryl acid esters, sulphurized fats, lead soaps, molybdenum disulphide and alkali metal nitrites. |
