[Also in Division C2] Bactericidal, fungicidal, naphthoquinone or pharmaceutical compositions comprise a novel naphthaquinone of formula wherein R is H or C 1-4 alkyl, R<SP>1</SP> is C 1-4 alkylidene, Y is H C 1-4 alkyl, C 1-4 alkoxy or halogen and Fur is a radical derived from furan or tetrahydrofuran which may be substituted by alkyl groups, and a solid or liquid diluent or carrier. The compounds have anti-tumour activity and may be used in a method for treating tumours, other than in man, by administering the said compounds optionally in the presence of a diluent. The compounds may also be used in a method for combatting bacteria or fungi by applying to an actual or potential bacterial or fungal habitat the said compounds optionally in the presence of a diluent.</p> |
