1,248,826. Bleaching cottons. ATLANTIC RICHFIELD CO. 13 Aug., 1969 [2 Oct., 1968], No. 40567/69. Heading DIP. Cotton materials, e.g: fabrics, are bleached by contacting them with an organic hydroperoxide in the vapour phase. Specified hydroperoxides are butyl, cumene and amyl hydroperoxides. In the examples the material is wetted with a buffer or alkaline solution and then introduced into an atmosphere of water vapour and tert butyl hydroperoxide in equilibrium with the liquid phase at 70‹C. and held there for 1 to 4 hours. After bleaching the material is generally treated with a sulphite such as sodium bisulphite or sodium dithionite. The bleached material may be dried before the sulphite treatment. Cotton fabric may include some synthetic fibres. |
