In a glass-melting furnace of the tank type, the bridge wall separating the melting zone 14 from the refining zone 15 comprises a hollow central portion 12 topped by blocks 18 and provided with air cooling conduits 26 having discharge nozzles 31, flanked by throat portions comprising skim blocks 13 slidably mounted in grooves formed in blocks 20 in the tank side walls 11 and in end walls 17 of the central portion. The skim blocks 13 define ports 24 for the molten glass with blocks 23 supported by the floor 10, and are surmounted by blocks 22. Additional air cooling nozzles 39 are directed against recesses 37 formed in the side walls 11 adjacent the blocks 13. The conduits 26 are suspended from a framework incorporating water-cooled pipes clamped against the walls of the hollow central portion 12, Figs. 2 and 4 (not shown).</p> |
