The device has a control rod, and an operating handle (11) mounted movable on a support plate (1). The plate has inner support cross bars (6) moving from a mounting position in which the bars pass through a front hole inside a casement until to a fixation position in which the bars are deployed to extend opposite to an inner side (34) of a front wall (30) and tightened in the support against the side to fix the support on the wall. An independent claim is also included for a method of mounting a locking or unlocking device on a sliding casement.
