Preparation of di- and polyamine of diphenylmethane group (I) comprises reacting aniline and formaldehyde in the presence of hydrochloric acid (less than 0.001 wt.%) (containing bivalent and/or higher valency metal ions). An independent claim is also included for the preparation of di- and polyisocyanate of diphenylmethane group comprising preparing (I) and reacting (I) with phosgene.
