The invention comprises compounds of formula wherein R 1 and R 2 are alkyl groups at least one of which is further substituted, R 3 is a divalent organic residue which together with forms a 5- to 7-membered heterocycle and X is H, alkyl or alkoxy. The compounds are used as coupling components in the preparation of azo dyes and are prepared by condensing N-substituted-m-aminoanilines with dicarboxylic acid anhydrides -and cyclizing if necessary. In examples, N-[3-N,N-di-acetoxyethyl)aminophenyl]- phthalimide or -succinimide or -maleimide and N-[3,N,N-di-(cyanoethyl)-aminophenyl]-phthalimide are prepared. A number of similar compounds are specified. 3-Carboxy - ethyl- or -ethenyl - carbonylamino - N,N - di - (acetoxyethyl) - anilines are prepared by reacting N,N-di-(acetoxyethyl)-3- amino-aniline with succinic or maleic anhydride.</p> |
