The method involves collecting and analyzing information for updating a habits table for a user (U). Priority data to be transferred is determined based on the table. The data is transferred by a transfer manager (GES) in a distribution network towards a multimedia file reception module (REC) in a user equipment. The module stores the data in a cache memory (C) of the equipment, where the cache memory is controlled by the network. The transfer manager uses the information on user line status for transferring the data. The reception module carries the information on state of the cache memory to a system in the distribution network. The reception module places software for consultation of content of data available in the cache memory. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a program including instructions for implementing a method of transferring data (B) a device for transferring data (C) a user equipment (D) a domestic gateway.
