<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain stable image quality which does not depend upon recording materials. <P>SOLUTION: The measurement by an LED 301 for reflection is performed and next, the measurement by an LED 302 for transmittance is performed. The results of the two measurements are subjected to video comparison operation and a paper kind is judged, based on the result of the video comparison operation. Fixing processing conditions are changed by the judged paper kind and the conveyance of the recording material is started. The video photographed by a video reading sensor 123 is subjected to the video comparison operation while the recording material is conveyed and an amount of smudge is calculated. Since the recording material moves, the surface characteristic of the recording material is averaged. However, the fall off in an amount of light due to the smudge does not depend upon the behavior of the recording material and therefore, only the fall off in the amount of light due to the smudge appears as the fall off in the output signal of a video reader. The amount of the sludge can be discriminated by processing the signal fall off by a method of detecting an amount of ruggedness edge on the surface of the recording material which is the above second operation means. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
