PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable and highly efficient reciprocating compressor having even such a configuration that a shaft axis of a cylinder is offset-arranged for a shaft axis of a main shaft part with the purpose for reducing load (side pressure) of a piston for the cylinder and capable of reducing vibration. SOLUTION: A balance weight 108 whose weight is adjusted as a means for balancing unbalance is at a position where its center of gravity is deviated on substantially opposite side of the center of an eccentric part 110 for the shaft axis 113 of the main shaft part and on a side of direction of rotation of the main shaft part 109 from the right opposite side. When the piston 117 is at a position of top dead center, a position of the center of gravity of the balance weight 108 is a position which does not exceed a plane B including the shaft axis 113 of the main shaft part and being parallel with the shaft axis 112 of the cylinder.
