PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a large-size, high-quality image display in an organic electroluminescent (EL) device. SOLUTION: The organic EL device comprises: a transparent first substrate; a plurality of second substrates arranged in a predetermined first pattern and bonded to one of the surfaces of the first substrate; and a plurality of pixel sections arranged on the substrate surface in a predetermined second pattern, each of the pixel sections including: (i) an organic EL element formed on the first substrate and emitting light at least toward the first substrate side; and (ii) a driving element formed on the second substrate, electrically connected to the organic EL element under the condition in which the second substrate is bonded to the first substrate, and driving the organic EL element.
