PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for obtaining acetonitrile containing less water content by removing water from water-containing acetonitrile without using a reagent necessary for paying attention in the points of labor safety and hygiene. SOLUTION: This method for producing anhydrous acetonitrile by distillation-treating the water-containing acetonitrile to produce the anhydrous acetonitrile containing≤500 ppm water content is characterized by mixing the water-containing acetonitrile with a solvent having a lower boiling point than that of the acetonitrile by≥5°C, and then distillation-treating.
