In some embodiments, a lighting device in which an LED 21 as a light source is disposed in a housing 10 with a translucent portion 11. The lighting device is provided with a loop-type heat pipe 30 having a heat receiving portion 31 and a heat releasing portion 32. The heat pipe 30 is disposed such that the heat receiving portion 31 is thermally connected to the light source 21 and the heat releasing portion 32 is thermally connected to a portion of the housing positioned higher than the receiving portion 31. The connecting portion of the housing 10 to which the heat releasing portion 32 of the heat pipe is connected constitutes a heat releasing plate 41. This structure can improve the cooling performance.
