PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce image distortion between lines by estimating aperture shading generated by the presence of occlusion in an object to be examined in an ultrasonic imaging system. SOLUTION: A plurality of transmission beams are transmitted to the object using an ultrasonic transmitter with an aperture. The respective transmission beams are associated with a plurality of receiving beams reflected by the object. The receiving beams are collected by using a plurality of receiving channels. The received data is obtained from one or more collected receiving beams for every receiving channel to generate the sum of absolute values of the received data. The sum of the absolute values is smoothed and normalized on a receiving channel group to generate estimation of a shading aperture function which characterizes aperture shading generated by occlusion. The shading aperture function is used as receiving apodization to improve a signal-to-noise ratio of receiving data. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
