PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a swell of a bellows caused by adhesion of oil in a hydraulic tensioner. SOLUTION: In the hydraulic tensioner 10, a base end section 71 of a bellows guide 70 arranged between the bellows 23 and a spring 63 is fixed on a plunger 12 side, a pointed head 73 of the bellows guide 70 is always positioned inside of an outer cylinder 21, and a gap between the pointed head 73 of the bellows 70 and the outer cylinder 21 is set to be smaller than a gap between the pointed head 73 and the spring 63.
